Hello Meet the Author

Martinique Mims is an author, storyteller, and performing artist dedicated to helping children and families explore emotions, imagination, and creativity through the power of story.

As the founder of The Color of Stories, Martinique creates experiences that extend beyond the page. From her children’s book Through the Colors of a Butterfly to interactive school visits, read-alouds, workshops, and artistic performances, her work invites young people to see themselves, embrace their feelings, and celebrate the beauty of community.

With a background in the arts and a heart for education, Martinique blends storytelling, movement, and creative expression to make learning engaging and meaningful. Her programs are designed to support emotional growth, literacy development, and confidence in children of all ages.

Through books, performances, and community-centered artistic ventures, The Color of Stories is more than a brand — it is a vibrant space where families, educators, and communities come together to grow, connect, and create in full color.

My Story

Stories have always been more than words on a page for me,  they’ve been a way to understand emotions, express creativity, and build connection.

The Color of Stories was born from my desire to create meaningful experiences for children and families,  spaces where imagination is celebrated, feelings are explored, and creativity is encouraged. What began as a children’s book, Through the Colors of a Butterfly, has grown into something much bigger.

As an author and performing artist, I saw how storytelling could move beyond the page. Through read-alouds, school visits, dance, workshops, and community-centered artistic experiences, I discovered that stories come alive when we embody them, when we move, create, and share them together.

The Color of Stories is a reflection of that belief. It is a vibrant, multifaceted space where books, art, movement, and community intersect. My mission is simple: to help children feel seen, inspired, and confident and to remind families and communities of the power that stories hold to bring us together.
